MARTINSVILLE – Buckle up Martinsville! The police department is taking part in the annual Click It or Ticket campaign.

The first checkpoint took place at the intersection of Union Street and Askin Street Monday night.

Police say no one was given a ticket.

Law enforcement agencies nationwide will be out on the roads from May 20 through June 2 to remind drivers and passengers to buckle their seat belts.

The annual Click It or Ticket campaign aims at enforcing seat belt use to help keep travelers safe as they drive to their summer destinations.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 10,076 people who were killed in passenger vehicle crashes in 2017 weren’t buckled.

While the main focus is seat belt use, police say they are also on the lookout for other violations.
