UPDATE: Wounded man charged with second degree murder in Martinsville

MARTINSVILLE – Tuesday at 1:20 AM, the Martinsville Police Department responded to 313 Clift Street in reference to a shooting. Rasheem Oshea Hairston was found dead at the scene. After officers arrived, they were called to the hospital for a second person with gunshot wounds. Devontae Lee Massey, 23, of Martinsville, had also been shot on Clift Street. Massey’s wounds were non-life threatening. Arrest warrants were obtained for Devontae Massey and he was charged with:

  • second degree murder

  • use of a firearm in the commission of a felony

  • possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

  • reckless handling of a firearm

  • discharging a firearm in the city

MARTINSVILLE – The Martinsville Police Department is conducting an investigation after a gunshot wound victim appeared at SOVAH Health in Martinsville.

According to the Martinsville-Henry County 911 Center, the individual received gunshot wounds to the arm and leg in an incident Tuesday.
