One dead, another injured after minivan crashes in Ridgeway

RIDGEWAY – A crash in Ridgeway left one person dead and another injured Monday.

The crash occurred at 9:43 AM on Old Sand Road, near Martin Road.

According to state police, a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country was traveling east when it ran off the left side of the roadway, hit a utility pole and overturned.

The minivan was driven by 42-year-old Cory W. Hampton of Ridgeway.

Hampton was transported to the hospital for injuries received in the crash.  

The passenger, 30-year-old Jessica N. McConnell of Roanoke, died at the scene.

Neither of them were wearing a seatbelt, police say. 

Police believe that speed was a factor.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
