Updated: Dec 24, 2022

MARTINSVILLE, VA – Martinsville Circuit Court Clerk Ashby Pritchett has announced his retirement after 37 years of service.

During his time as circuit court clerk, Pritchett was re-elected to office five times and was never opposed by someone else.

Pritchett takes pride in his office’s ability to operate as a business, constantly pursuing innovation, and cost savings.

The clerk’s office was the first office in the state to provide free secure remote access to land records and to earn the professional Master accreditation for the entire staff.

“I have led because I was willing to be led by other people, resulting in better results than I could have produced on my own,” said Pritchett. “If I leave any lasting legacy, it is due to the support and faithfulness of the people I worked with in this great job I was blessed to have,” added Pritchett.
