18-year-old dies after vehicle crashes into tree, catches fire

FRANKLIN COUNTY, VA – A single-vehicle crash claimed the life a teenager on Thursday night in Franklin County.

At 8:25 p.m., a 2010 Ford Escape was traveling south on Hardy Road, when the Ford crossed the center line, ran off the left side of the road, hit a tree and caught fire, according to Virginia State Police.

The driver was identified as 18-year-old Claire Elizabeth Overstreet of Moneta.

State police say Overstreet was not wearing her seatbelt and died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
