Martinsville Deputy Chief of Police Robert Ramsey participated in the 113th running of the Boston Marathon on Monday, finishing the 26.2-mile race with a time of 3:25:30.

Boston boasts the world's longest-running marathon and this year's event marks the sixth time that Ramsey has participated in the popular race. This year's event featured over 25,000 runners.

Deriba Merga of Ethiopia won the men's event with a time of 2:08:42 while defending champion Robert Cheruiyot of Kenya settled for a fifth-place finish. Ryan Hall represented the Americans well with a third-place time of 2:09:40.

The women's race came down to the wire as Salina Kosgei of Kenya dethroned defending champion Dire Tune of Ethiopia by a mere second with a finishing time of 2:32:16.

"When you hear it's marathon weekend, you know it's spring here in Boston--even though the calendar may say something else," said Boston Mayor Tom Menino.

Nascar

Danville native Peyton Sellers completed his first 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series race last weekend and came home with a solid 26th-place finish in the O’Reilly 300 at Texas Motor Speedway.

The #77 SFP Chevrolet was forced to go to their backup car to qualify for the race due to a wreck in practice. Sellers still managed to qualify 23rd among 49 drivers, with an average speed of 183.187 mph on the 1.5 mile track.

Texas is an impound race, which gave the team no opportunity to make changes to the backup car before the start. It was apparent from the drop of the green flag that the car needed adjustments.

To say Kyle Busch is a busy guy this racing season would be a huge understatement.

After all, Busch has competed in EVERY race in NASCAR's top-three divisions thus far in 2009 - Sprint Cup, Nationwide and the Camping World Truck Series.
