Martinsville Deputy Chief of Police Robert Ramsey participated in the 113th running of the Boston Marathon on Monday, finishing the 26.2-mile race with a time of 3:25:30.
Boston boasts the world's longest-running marathon and this year's event marks the sixth time that Ramsey has participated in the popular race. This year's event featured over 25,000 runners.
Deriba Merga of Ethiopia won the men's event with a time of 2:08:42 while defending champion Robert Cheruiyot of Kenya settled for a fifth-place finish. Ryan Hall represented the Americans well with a third-place time of 2:09:40.
The women's race came down to the wire as Salina Kosgei of Kenya dethroned defending champion Dire Tune of Ethiopia by a mere second with a finishing time of 2:32:16.
"When you hear it's marathon weekend, you know it's spring here in Boston--even though the calendar may say something else," said Boston Mayor Tom Menino. |
