Three-time Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson continued his recent domination of Martinsville Speedway on Sunday, pushing aside Denny Hamlin with 14 laps to go to win for the fifth time in the last six races on the notoriously tight, paper-clip shaped oval.
A disappointed Hamlin finished second, followed by Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and Clint Bowyer. The victory was the 18th for Hendrick Motorsports at Martinsville, and the 10th in the last 13 races. Johnson has won six of those, and Gordon has won the other four. Hamlin didn't appreciate the bump-and-run from Johnson, but says he'll probably even things up some time in the future. "I would have done the same to him and if it comes back around, I will do the same thing," Hamlin said. "It's just the way it is. At Martinsville, you've got to battle for every inch." Gordon retained the points lead over Bowyer by 89 points.
