Fire InvestigationFire at apartment complex under investigation

MARTINSVILLE, Va. –   The Martinsville Fire Marshal’s Office and the Martinsville Police Department are investigating a fire that occurred at the former Henry Hotel, now an apartment complex for senior citizens, located at 10 Broad Street in the City of Martinsville. The facility is managed by F & W Management Corporation of Roanoke, VA. The fire was called in by an unknown individual who was at the scene.
Fire & EMS crews were dispatched at 12:29 p.m. The fire was quickly brought under control and caused only minor cosmetic damage to a small area on the third floor, near the point of origin. However, there was some smoke and water damage to other parts of the building. The building has an automated fire alarm and sprinkler system which was activated by the fire.
Investigators from the Martinsville Police Department and Fire Marshal’s Office have obtained evidence which would appear to indicate that the fire is of suspicious origin. Residents of the home are being interviewed and investigators are continuing to gather evidence. There were no injuries in this incident. Residents will be allowed to return to their apartment homes this evening.
Anyone with information in reference to this case is asked to call the Martinsville Police Department Investigations Unit at 403-5301, the Martinsville Fire Marshal’s office at 403-5325, the 911 Center, or Crime Stoppers. Crime Stoppers pays rewards of up to $1,000 in certain cases. You do not have to reveal your identity. Report tips anonymously to 63-CRIME (276-632-7463).
